It looks similar to a thistle mantis (scientific name Blepharopsis mendica) at [link] However, yours has different colored eyes. You can ask :iconblepharopsis: on the name of your insect because he takes numerous pictures of insects and seems to know the names of a lot of insects he sees. By the way, your picture is beautiful! :) May I use it as a stock picture? It’s understandable if you say no.

I believe that National Geographic recently did an article in last months issue about Mantids. I'm pretty sure your specimen might be in there ^___^

Oh I love insects and praying mantis' are one of my fav! This is just a gorgeous shot :nod: Looks almost as if he is posing for you and the details are phenomenal as well as his unique pattern =)

That's an amazing praying mantis. I have no idea what specific species of mantis it is though, and I've never seen one with these markings!
You captured the intensity of the unseeing stare... I love these insects.
